SMASHING PUMPKINS Planning Live Return On European Festival Circuit
December 17, 2006The reactivated SMASHING PUMPKINS likely will return to the stage for the first time since their final December 2000 concert "at some European festivals this summer," according to a post on the band's MySpace page. Meanwhile, the PUMPKINS continue plugging away at their reunion album. "We are four songs deep and about a hundred guitars in," writes drummer Jimmy Chamberlin.
The PUMPKINS' forthcoming LP, which is being produced by Roy Thomas Baker (QUEEN, THE CARS),is slated for release next year.
Mainman Billy Corgan announced the reactivation of the SMASHING PUMPKINS last year. Aside from himself and Chamberlin, it is unknown whether original guitarist James Iha, original bassist D'Arcy Wretzky or latter-day bass player Melissa Auf der Maur will be involved in the project.
No title has been revealed for the new PUMPKINS album, the first since 2000's "MACHINA/The Machines of God".
Corgan debuted several new songs at a low-key show with WHO guitarist Pete Townshend on November 7 in Los Angeles.
